Michael brings a mindfulness and biopsychological approach to his clinical work, having given numerous public talks on the relationship between everyday life, mindfulness, trauma, and cognitive neuroscience, including lectures and university courses at Simon Fraser University. In 2009, he was part of a group teaching meditation to women in the BC correctional system.
Michael holds a 6th Dan in Aikido, is skilled in conflict resolution, and is recognized as a prolific speaker and internationally published author focusing on the intersection of neuroscience, trauma, and contemplative/mindfulness practice.
With 35 years of expertise in mental health and personal development, Michael provides a thoughtful and empathetic approach to treatment. He focuses on assisting clients to uncover the root causes of their distress, anxiety, or discomfort, ranging from their early family background through current relationships to their intended future goals. Therapeutically, the priority is on aiding clients to develop awareness of emotional underpinnings and behavioral patterns to make more positive and holistic life choices.
While Dr. Michael conducts verbal psychotherapy, he is proficient in EMDR therapy, enabling clients to transcend the stigma, shame, and burden of understanding the 'why' behind their condition. Instead, this approach centers on a physiological method that accelerates self-healing by allowing the memory networks of the brain and nervous system to reprocess and release the traumas of their past.
